Commemorating 40 years

June 3, 1984 – June 3, 2024

On June 3, 1984 67th High Priest Nikken Shonin officially conducted the opening ceremony for Myoshinji Temple. We can all feel immense gratitude to him for establishing our local temple such that we can have the great benefit of practicing true Buddhism here today.

We can also feel grateful to those who came before us to protect and carry on Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings at Myoshinji Temple. On June 23, 2024 we gathered together to commemorate our temple’s 40th Anniversary in a spirit of gratitude.

As we move forward, let’s protect Myoshinji Temple for the future through our determination to take great action to share this teaching with others. When we naturally share this Buddhism for others’ happiness there will always be someone to pass the torch on to for the protection of Myoshinji Temple to support the establishment of true peace and stability in the world.

Many accomplishments took place at Myoshinji Temple during his time, including the opening of a temple in Canada. Historically, Myoshinji had also taken care of practitioners on the west coast of Canada, however, circumstances led to the establishment of a temple in Vancouver. Previous Chief Priest Rev. Despite our inability to gather in person, Rev. Kimura navigated the Covid-19 Pandemic in a way that created even more opportunities than ever for us to practice together in unity, albeit from afar. On top of daily broadcasts of Gongyo and Shodai we had study meetings, Sutra Practices, Lessons in Buddhism, introduction meetings, parents, children’s, teens and young adult meetings.
